The ZF502 comes up as the flywheel for a 2.3 duratec, which there should be no issues with Crank Position alignment as the CKP is on the crank pulley with those engines.
Which to me says either this isn't on the car in you profile or you have the wrong year and engine, which would be a zetec (which has a CKP in the position you're describing).
I'm going to go with 'it's the wrong part for the application'.
Don't "think outside the box".
There is no box.
Do it correct, or do it twice.
