(1) You'll notice the speed limit in CA with chains is 25-30 mph. Driving faster will make it more likely the chains fly out and strike the car. (2) even on the tractor, screaming along at 6.82 mph, we found we could usually take up at least one more link after a few minutes of operation; if it's safe you may want to pull over and check adjust the tightness after a couple of miles.
