Mobil One Advanced Fuel Economy Oil 0W20. (available in some places for a five quart bottle for $23. instead of the $8 a quart..)
(Standard Motorcraft filter is fine)

Keep all window and roof closed on highway

Increase FRONT tires to 44psi (you will NOT even notice it over bumps.. but the car will corner better) the rear leave stock, or only one or two at most psi higher. If more you WILL be really feeling the wacks from the overly stiff tires.
This is assuming you have 17" or 16" wheels. I do NOT know what increasing the 18" tires would do...

Avoid streets with stop lights or stop signs. Every one you stop at cuts mpg drastically. Even if a longer route, if it has no stops, will be worth it.

If you are planning on buying wheels, the smoother the surface, the better the mpg. So five spoke are like the worst for churning the air. A nice smooth moon cover would be the best.
Covering the rear wheel openings is a big mileage gainer..
Lowering the car should also give some gain.

reset your stock mpg meter often. The meter will give tremendous insight into what adds to the mileage, and what kills it.
By resetting it, you let it change way more for small changes in the actual mpg being used.

With a manual tranny you absolutely want to be in the highest gear the car car be driven in at any time. For me fifth is good at 32mph.
If you have to go up a hill though, downshift!
(I think this is why the auto is said to get better mileage.. because most stick drivers cannot keep it in the lowest gear like an auto can.
And it has it's own rules to upshift. A person has to guess if it is best to downshift.

Slower is better. The best i can drive seems to be below 47mph. Which is just 2mph over the freeway legal lower limit of 45mph...
I like 35mph streets
I drive 55mph in the 65 freeways. have for a few years..
Really sllooooow starts from stoplights and signs.
(folks LOVE to jump off the line.. too bad.. The worst are idiots who are tailgating so close they panic when i shift, and the car slows down for a split second..)

Interesting how some folks will also slow down when i am on the freeway. like they do not have the guts to do it, but would if another is doing it..
Then tailgaters, i used to despise them, but now i find them to be helping me get better gas mileage, i do not hate them as much.
