Decided to take out the rear seats today, as they rarely get used as intended, and when I fold them down the seat bottoms take up too much space and get in the way.
I only went halfway and took out the bottoms. I figure for the time being I'll leave the backs in place as they fold flat so they're really not in the way. I think eventually I'll toss in a steel lock box back there depending on space, in which case I'll remove them.
Real simple to do, each bottom piece (for 60/40 seats, I think all hatchbacks have that) has two brackets bolted to the floor. Bolts are T40 Torx, and not very difficult to remove. Just remove the bolts, pull up on the seats as if you were folding them, they pop right out.
Now both front seats can be completely rearward without smashing against the rear seats (while folded), and there's a bit more room now for longer stuff.
