I have never ever seen that to be the case. I have seen several cars do like 12.0 then 11.8 then 11.5 and run the same mph and in some cases loose mph as they loose ET. If you are picking up mph then the car is making more power. maybe it was heat soaked before and it cooled down longer, or he had to wait less in the staging lanes or the air was changing.
If you spin half way down the track you run out of track trying to play catch up, its also physics...
