Did you ever address this? My bushing/plastic eye thing was weak when I got the car (popped off when shifted hard), and after putting a news trans/clutch/flywheel in, the little bit of a bushing that was left finally gave up the ghost, leaving me with no "cup" to snap onto the ball on the trans.
I could just replace the cable, but there's gotta be a better way. Wish I would have thought about this before the trans went in...I would have drilled out that lever to thrown a bolt/washer setup on it like you had planned.
