Shocks don't lower a car, the springs do. Lowering springs are naturally shorter, but they are also stiffer. As a result you also need a shorter and firmer shock to properly dampen them. In summary, to appropriately lower a car you need both springs and shocks that will work together. The best way to assure this is a matched spring and shock kit from a reputable manufacturer. You can buy springs and shocks from separate manufacturers but you need to know what you are doing or get advise from the manufactures as to whether the components will work together.....otherwise it's just a crap-shoot.
