I don't pre-warm modern cars - they are more or less ready to go as soon as you turn the ignition key. But older cars with a manual choke, I do pre-warm them. Because they are just so much easier to drive if you do. However, I only open the choke wide to get 'er going and then close it until the car will barely maintain an idle, to avoid having excess gas getting past the piston rings. I'll then let it sit for around 5 minutes.
