Why do they have different requirements than the SCCA?
That doesn't make sense.
(Snell "M" rating is perfectly legal in SCCA)
4.3 DRIVER’S SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding
Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards
31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable.
Helmets meeting British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are also acceptable.
BTW, the current standard is 2005.
2 preceding standards are 2000 and 1995.
So, in the SCCA, any SA, K, or M-1995 (and newer) is legal.
Your club is right about one thing.
The spec will change in 2010 as the new Snell 2010 rating comes out.
Then, only 2005 and 2000 Snell rated helmets will be legal.
I think someone got mixed up about the Snell ratings.
Any Snell (SA, K, or M) should be legal for AutoCross.
It's the DOT certified/stickered helmets that don't
have a Snell certification that aren't allowed.
time I've seen a Snell-SA only
requirement was at the SVTOA track day/s at Miller Motorsports Park.
^^^Most road courses will require an SA helmet, but I've never heard of an AutoCross (SCCA) mandating one.
If you want me to butt out of your discussion, I will.
But, I was just interested in what everyone is doing down there in your region.
