I would say the weight balance thing can be helpful, but I think the benefit of removing that much weight is more helpful than leaving it in.
The focus does like to throttle off oversteer, but you can use that to your advantage on an course, and dial it down a bit with swaybar and tire pressure adjustment. The throttle off oversteer is even more helpful if you're running an LSD...I still need to get me one of those.
