i just did this.. the 12mm x 1.25 worked well but it is not exactly the same as the thread on the shifter .. it doesnt thread on easily with fingers

but anyways i threaded a bunch of it, and used a socket to turn the die .. not a die tool and it worked fine.

i took about 1 1/2" off the shifter, the throws are shorter and overall it feels much better.

the only drawback is the boot looks horrible cinched around the shaft.. but mine was already like this because i had the reverse lockout off.. so i have to think of something to make the boot look better.
