No problem, man. The event was everything I expected and more. It was challenging (very), an adrenaline rush, and I met some really great people. I had been playing racing games pretty much all my life, so I had knowledge of the basics of racing lines and such, or so I thought. You WILL learn your first time out, so don't expect to be competitive. You should just ease into your runs, unlike me and try to set good times.

Let's start with registration. It was easy for me, the Wiregrass SCCA is set up to use MyAutoEvents.com to sign up. They printed out copies of the pre-registration. Since I was 17 at the time, I had to sign the minor waiver at registration and pay up the $20 for not being a member. I had visited the events and the info website a few times before, so I knew a little about their schedule and processes.

After that, tech inspection and driver's meeting. Nothing too surprising here, just make sure you read up on tech before you go out. You will want to be ready when they grid you. I read up so I knew what to expect there also.

Then we started racing. My first session - 3 DNF's. Not surprising, really. The course confused some veterans a few times. Turns out I was missing one part of a slalom, I didn't notice the pointer cone was pointed in the direction I wasn't going. More about this later.

I found some nice guys to work with in the field when the other classes of vehicles ran. Just make sure you get with someone who knows the drill and you will have an easier time working.

Second set of runs... When in doubt, ask. I happened to get some help from the fastest guy at the track that day. He rode with me through my fourth run and pointed out where I was making the mistake. I had an idea of where it was after working in the field, and watching the other cars run that track section. He helped point me through it.

I did fairly good that run. Then I shaved off 6 seconds on #5. Then lost yet another second on #6 to end the day to end up 7 seconds faster than run 4. I actually ended up placing 4/7 in STS my first time out, beating a Prelude, an older Escort GT, and a RSX-S. I was surprised at that.

Overall, it was a great learning experience, local social event, adrenaline rush, worth every penny in my opinion. Many vets say to get started as early as possible. Now I know why. I guess 17 is pretty early, I hope to be doing this for the rest of my productive life. Like I said before, right now I am not racing to be competitive, as I would be sadly disappointed. It's just a lot of fun for me.
