Focus v. Cobalt 2.2

My buddy just got a Cobalt 2.2 ls 5 spd and i have the 2.0 hatch 5spd with magnaflow exhaust and a sport spring kit, he has no mods. Aneway we are discussing racing and the few times we played on the street he pulled me but i want to take him to the local drags on their "street legal" night. Do you think i can take him??

It'd probably be a driver's race, and it sounds like your friend has his stuff together. Throw some more mods at your engine and you'll be able to beat him...a catback without header/highflow cat/ORP doesn't really do anything since the stock header and cat are so restrictive, and obviously springs aren't going to make you any faster (although get him to an autocross and you'll have a chance to beat him in the corners.)

The hub caps arnt that bad, they arnt rims but they are better than most.

It will be alot better of a race then you'll think, he can prolly take you, hes got more hp and about the same weight.

+1 for driver's race. The Ecotec is a decent piece of engine, the transaxle they bolted to it tho in the Cobalt is geared DEEP, and widely spaced, which should help you a bit.

yea man i raced this one kid i know who had one with exhuast on, i had a crappy start in which i fell a car lenght behind, and it kinda stayed that way til the end. just launch good and dont miss your shifts and you'll take him

lilpup2022 09-19-2006 05:42 PM

i was running with one on the highway on and off for about 40 miles. any time we went after it from about 60 i would get him, until the speed limiter stopped me. not sure about from a dead stop though! [???:)]

Although you have at least a 10 hp disadvantage, a zx3 is considerably lighter. A 5-spd 2.2 cobalt coupe weights 2900+ compared to 2550 for a standard zx3. http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/chev...972/specs.html
