Shift Pointers
 
Ok my brother races ducati's on a regular basis and he told me to acheive maximun performance from the engine is to know the SHIFT points that the car has...well its a stock ZX3 hatch 2001....is there anything out there that could describe what RPM to shift at?

my brother said that for the Ducati a person needs to shift at speed of 0.8 seconds at i don't remeber what RPM (sorry)....i know its going to be different for a car...but is there anthing out there that could tell me when and where to shift? (oh not by the light that tells me when ither) [thumb]

one more thing too the max hp and tq band at 5300 rpm would not be the point at which to shift at.

Shift it at 6000 rpm.

why is that? 6000 RPM just wanted to know whats gained or lost if you hit that shift point

You're not making enough power stock to go over 6000. You should get your best times (if you're racing) if you shift at 6000.

well ok the car does have some slight mods but nothing to brag about i have her setup all stock looking but under the hood she a bit better than average http://www.seanhylandfocus.com/ (the short block) so thanks for the tips

1st is about 6.5k, 2nd 6k, 3rd 6.5, and unless im crusing for a while i almost never leave 4th.

if im going to be over 60 for longer than 5 min, i put it into 5th but thats the only time.

if u shift at 6000-6200, youre in the power band or peak hp for the next gear. if you do it at around 5000 youll be too low for the next gear. its also trial and error, see what works best.

Enzob---There is a bit of a difference in all the cars---Butt dyno yours...IE: sit in the drivers seat...put it in first.if manuel and floor it...When it no longer pulls(you have missed the the shift point)shift.....Learn to shift at the point it no longer pulls..It is normally before the rev. limiter without cams and etc....Do this for all the gears. IF it is auto...mash the pedal and just pray cuz tis gonna suck till you modd.............
