Zetec 2.3L Roller Motor
Call me crazy, but I've got this idea, go with Tom's stroker kit, keep a lower compression for boost later on, but rework the head for roller rockers, and roller cams. Less resistance, more power, we all know this, as well as a longer duration, quicker valve lift, which all equals more in and more out. I guess my questions are, a. is it feasable, two what kind of power numbers might this produce, and d. even if the roller motor is not an option, how much might the stroker increase power? Any opinions and info are much appreciated.

umm what would be the reason? I seriously think that now matter what, you are going to get better results with the OHC design. If this were a better way then people would already be doing it.
only advantage (and its minimal) is moving useable torque to a lower RPM range. OHC is the way to go, it is way more efficient and gives you the quickest cam to valve interaction. The cam is closer to the valve and there isn't a long pushrod to be pushing up and down. That is why almost all manufacturer's have gone to it on most vehicles. You would need a custom made block, head, cam to do this, might as well buy an Iron Duke it is a 2.5L. There is no place for a cam in the engine and there is no way that the head could be modified to support this. Even with a alternate head you would have no place for a cam. for all the money you put into it the Iron Duke would be a better/cheaper choice. BTW the Iron Duke is a 2.5L 4-cyl built by GM. |
im not talking about changing the DOHC but modifying it with a roller cam grind, roller rockers, and roller lifters, i dont think it would provide a substantial amount of hp or tq, mostly just to say i have the only roller zetec 2.3, or roller zetec for that matter. there would be no moving of the cams, just modification of the cams lifters, and rockers, the end result is the valve reaching peak lift quicker and therefore closing quicker, because of the roller grind, allowing the valves to be open wider longer equaling more efficiency.

i am pretty sure there are no rockers on ohv it is only the cam then the top of the valve that touches and you can not put anything that "rolles" on it it is most efficient the way it is, unless you have some sort of variable valve timing or variable cam timing. sorry to burst your bubble

i cant belive i didnt realize that at first, the cams do just ride on the valves, or vise a versa, so it would be quite impractical, bummer, im still gonna do the 2.3 stroker though, cause theres no replacement for displacement.
