auto tranny drag launches
I have a 2000 zx3 with an automatic transmission. I plan on taken it to the 1/4 strip this summer.
Does any one have advice for lauching an automatic off the line? I've seen lots of advice for manuals but no autos. From what I've read alot of people seem to lauch at around 3750 RPMs.

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to improve automatic performace? I know a diablo speed chip can mess around with the shift points in an auto, but I have no idea if there is any real gain in performance. Any one know?

I also plan on switching to synthentic tranny fluid in a month or so, just out of personal preferance. There are also "performance" blend transmission fluids out there, but I heard some can be harmful for the transmission and dont do much anyway, any truth to this?

All I know is that you should definitely not do any neutral drops. Perhaps you already knew that, but I always want to mention it.

step on the brake........mash the gas to 2500rpm.

step off the brake........put the pedal to the floor and bite your nails.

lol its that simple. but something like a sct tune from focussport will adjust your shift points. It is a huge improvement by the way

That's the way I do it. Works good for me.

And I have Wayne's tune from HIA, worth every penny....running the 93 octane aggressive tune.......shifts like a dream man....I hit 50 in first at wot.

Place tranny in neutral, floor the gas pedal, then slap it into gear when the light turns green ...... that is NOT the way you want to launch LOL ..... the method listed above is about as good as your going to be able to do unless you get a stall converter and a trans brake.

Hey, not to steal a thread or anything, but how bad is this for the ATX?

jaykirs 03-02-2006 07:07 PM

^^^ It is EXTREMELY hard on the tranny!!!! And on the engine mounts and the axels and the CV joints and the torque converter ..... it can easily destroy your tranny, I highly recommend NOT doing neutral drops! lol

svtguy88 03-02-2006 07:21 PM, not neutral drops.....the only thing that would be worse would be reverse drops.....I was talking about drag launching an ATX. lol
