Timing Belt Tensioner + Squeak Problem
Can the timing belt tensioner squeak???
BTW The squeak is constant. It doesn't get worse or better when you rev the motor. Tried some belt dressing on the serpentine = no effect. 28K on Timing and Serpentine belts. Recently replaced head. Also in the timing belt tensioner the little arrow isn't exactly in the middle of the window Any help will be greatly appreciated as usual. |
My belt tensioner squeaked and rattled...>>> Clicky
Had it replaced...squeak and rattle gone. [;)] But, I would check your belt out a little further. Make sure you don't see any cracks on the underside in the ribs. You can also narrow down the noise by doing the following: Grab a long flat blade screwdriver. Place the blade end on an accessory of your choice, and the handle end in your ear. It will transmit the sounds, and you might be able to find the culprit. BE CAREFUL around moving components!!! A vacuum hose will also work, and is a little more versatile in tight spaces, though it doesn't transmit the sound as well as the solid screwdriver would. |
Was it a constant squeek like the one I'm describing???
Also I thought it sounded like it was coming from the timing belt, but I've come to understand that the timing belt cannot squeak, correct? It is definetly comming from the rear. |
Yes, it was constant and LOUD.
Though, in all fairness to your dilemna, it did rattle (high pitched) more than squeak. Check my first post. I added some diagnostic tips for ya. |
AHHHH the squeak from HELL!
I tried readjusting the timing tensioner (timing/upper area is the source of the sound), as I saw nothing to indicate tensioner failure. The bird is still in there! Is it possible that my cam seals can be making this noise? Or the ADJ. sprockets? |
bearing in either the tensioner or idler may be dry. theyre sealed and ford wants a mint. i took both of mine to a bearing shop and they put new ones in both for 13 bucks, no more problems.
