Flashing the high beam, both filaments on

In my Focus, I noticed that when you pull the high beam selector half way to hold it on high beam only while you hold it(manual describes this position as "flash" ), both filaments in the bulb are turned on.

I like to be able to hold in high beam for a bit, but not long enough to warrant set into "high beam" mode. When you click it into "high beam" mode, the low beam filament is turned off.

The HB2 lamp isn't designed to have both filaments burning at the sametime.

Is there something wrong with my car or do all Focuses do this?

all focus's do that. I think every car does actually. Every car that I drove at night does.

I think if the low beams are on already, then both are on when you use that flash feature, but if the headlights are off, then only the high-beam filiment is goes on. Since it's only intended to flash the lights momentarily, heat build-up in the bulb isn't a problem.

oops I read the question wrong[:)~] That one "No"is incorrect, both bulbs stay on when I hold the highbeam stalk, the low beam light turns off if you fully click the stalk into Highbeam mode.

I believe all Foci do this, it's normal, becuase both bulbs are only on for a little bit, if you want the highbeams for a longer time, you pull it all the way and the lows go off, so it's OK.

yeah im wondering is it bad, cause i would like to do this if its a possible?

My previous car never burned both filmanents at the sametime. While both lamps being on is fine for dual lamp setup, single lamp dual filament lamp isn't designed to have both filaments lit up at the sametime. You could end up melting something like the harness, internal parts, etc.
