Rough idle nightmare

I have a 2004 ford focus 2.3. The car has a salvage motor & I'm unsure of the actual miles. It has really rough idle & hesitates during acceleration. Bought it in July 2013. Put $800 dollars into it myself before taking it to a shop. The shop charged me $120 for diagnostics and said they didn't know what was wrong. They recommend taking it to billingsley. Took it to a different shop, they charged me 80 bucks and said my spark plugs were bad. I had changed the spark plugs a week before. Finally took it to the ford dealership and they said it was a bad fuel pump. That was $1100. Picked my car up from them and it wasn't fixed. Broke down the next day coming home from work. Tried to drive it back to them, broke down in the middle of the highway, & had to get towed. That time the dealership said it was a bad alternator. They gave me a discount and only charged $700. So generous of them. I picked my car up, it still wasn't fixed, so I took it back the next morning. They kept it over 2 weeks. I get it back & it's still screwed up. I haven't been able to find any vacuum leaks. The dealership just says they don't know what's wrong. The only trouble code I have is for the secondary air injection system. As far as I know that only affects emissions. Not drivability. If anyone has any suggestions that might help it would be greatly appreciated.

One of my friends suggested (I'm having just about the same problem except not so severe... YET it's becoming worse) your ecu is expanding and contracting because of the heat it'll expand when your engine warms it up and that can cause some issues... apparently. Check it out maybe it's worth a shot :p you've tried just about everything

I had minor rough idle issues with the coil boots on my car. These just pull off. I'd pull them off and inspect the spring and metal core.

I'd also recommend removing the MAF and cleaning it with MAF cleaner.

This is just guess work- without a code, I can't tell you much else. Your vacuum leak might still exist, but it might be under the intake manifold where the PCV is. That's just a guess- again.

I don't know anyone off hand that has an xcal2, but I'll ask around and get back to you on that. I would be very grateful for your help... One more detail though... The stumble is always present during idle, but I noticed today that it's much more violent when my foot is on the brake at a red light or after prolonged driving. If I'm stopped at a red light and I shift into neutral it gets a little bit better. Does this point more toward a vaccum issue?

Sorry about your trouble bro. :/ Tom would be the guy to follow, but it also coul be a short or a break in a wire at the batt or sumpm. So if you get to a point where you're running out of ideas to try, maybe just get a beer, go out to the car with a test light, and be in no hurry at all. I would start at the fuse box under the dash and go through every active fuse. If nothings weird there, I'd mozy on up to the underhood fuses. Def clean the maf too, though I would like to ask Tom if I may his way of cleaning one. Have you had someone wiggle wires by the battery while you sit in the car and watch for any change? Sorry for the long posts!
