I have an Apple device for my music (not sure what the darn thing is called, little square thing you put music on :) ) I have it plugged into the USB port. Always upon starting the car the voice says, "index full, some songs may not be available". I've tried reloading songs on Apple device, (only have about 30 on it) with no change. Any suggestions. I'm thinking I'll just get a thumb drive.
Thanks

I've used a 8Gb thumb drive with hundreds of songs and didn't have a problem. As long as the songs are named properly sync can find them easily with voice commands.

I don't know why your device acts that way.

Hi, 29Tudor,

If it's an iPod Shuffle, it's not compatible with SYNC. Here's a link to our device compatibility chart in case you'd like to get a different iPod:

If you decide to get a USB flash drive, make sure it is not password-protected. :)

I just bought a thumb drive, downloaded 32 songs, and plugged it into Focus. Now if I ask for USB, it says there is no media available, no songs. USB is not password protected. I brought it back in the house plugged into computer and played songs, so I know the thumb drive works. Any suggestions?

Did you make sure the thumb drive is formatted in FAT 32 before you loaded songs onto it. Sync won't recognize NTFS or fat 16

Nope, didn't know that. I'll check it. Thanks

OK, I reformatted in FAT32 and reloaded music. With key on car not running I plugged the thumb drive into USB port and I get the same message as in my first post above. If I try to access the USB port the answer I get is there is no media.
I'm puzzled because the iPod shuffle worked just got the annoying message above. Now the thumb drive which is supposed to be compatible won't work?

Which audio format are your songs in? SYNC will support MP3, WMA, WAV and ACC.

I'll check that, I got the shuffle as a gift, was just told to go to iTunes and download. Forgive me, I'm retired (which means we used punch cards in my first computer class in college) and this computer stuff can be a real challenge at times. Love my Focus though!
