auto trans fluid change
 
i need to change my auto trans fluid and i need to know a few things...where is the drain plug for the transmision??and how do i fill it up?i got everything to do it just wanna know where to look so i can get the job done quick without having to freeze my arse to much out in the driveway searching....even a pic of the underside of a focus would be good....incase it matters my car is a 01 ZTS sedan i think those have the dohc engine...anyone please help..

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. WARNING: When releasing the transaxle cooling system fluid pressure, cover the fluid hose with a thick cloth to prevent the possibility of scalding. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury. CAUTION: Whenever the fluid cooler hoses are disconnected from the fluid cooler, the outlet and inlet ports must be plugged to prevent the ingress of foreign material. Disconnect the return hose from the transmission fluid cooler.
o Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.
3. Attach a length of suitable drain hose to the transmission fluid cooler return hose.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Insert the drain hose into a calibrated 10 liter (10.5 quarts) container.
6. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the transaxle, do not run the engine above idle. NOTE: If the fluid return rate is less than 0.95 liters (1.0 quart) in 30 seconds , or if the return hose pulsates, check for restrictions at the pump, cooler or cooler lines. Run the engine at idle and pump out 3 liters (3.17 quarts) of automatic transmission fluid.
7. Switch OFF the engine.
8. Remove the fluid level indicator from the fluid level indicator tube.
9. Add 3 liters of automatic transmission fluid to the transaxle.
10. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the transaxle, do not run the engine above idle. NOTE: If the fluid return rate is less than 0.95 liters in 30 seconds , or if the return hose pulsates, check for restrictions at the pump, cooler or cooler lines. Run the engine at idle and pump out 3 liters (3.17 quarts) of automatic transmission fluid.
11. Switch OFF the engine.
12. Add 3 liters (3.17 quarts) of automatic transmission fluid to the transaxle.
13. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the transaxle, do not run the engine above idle. Run the engine at idle and pump out 3 liters (3.17 quarts) of automatic transmission fluid.
14. Switch OFF the engine.
15. Raise and support the vehicle.
16. Detach the length of suitable drain hose from the transmission fluid return hose.
17. NOTE: Remove the plug from the transmission fluid cooler return port. Connect the return hose to the transmission fluid cooler.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Add 3 liters (3.17 quarts) of automatic transmission fluid to the transaxle.
20. Install the fluid level indicator to the fluid level indicator tube.
21. CAUTION: To prevent damage to the transaxle, do not run the engine above idle. Run the engine.
22. Check the automatic transmission fluid level and fill if necessary.

As you can see from the above post, this is no quick and easy oil change. There is no drain plug to open, it's just not that simple. The above post misses one important thing, dropping the pan to be able to change the filter. You don't 'have to' change the filter but why do something half way? and... getting a good look at the contents of the pan gives you great insight into the health of the tranny.

My suggestion: take it to a tranny shop and let them do it. They'll flush the system and change the filter too.

well i give up i just wanted to change the fluid before the car is sold/trashed what ever comes first ...the car is a 01 no rust underneath but it's to weak to jack up i tried the jack points they bent and buckled my fender out a bit so i tried the frame and it twisted a bit so thats not and option...i honestly don't think there another car in this world built worse/cheaper...


i'm so frusterated with ford.[???:)]

one more question how do i know which hose is the proper to unhook out of the both of them??[:)]

The Automatic change regimin
 
No a tranny shop usually only changes the oil by a purge and refill method. Mine had 150K and still had factory seals on pan.

The filter was disgusting.

No there is not a way in car to drain the TC with the pan off. The method above drains all of the oil and replaces it, but with the pan off it is not doable.

Hpw much is the right amount for the refill if you do not empty the TC?

then do the flush.. that is the best. Then drop the pan and change the filter. That is manditory.

Hi guys!
My Focus has an orange signal lighting on on the dashboard after a few minutes on the highway. The manual says: "Multifunction: automatic transaxle/cooling system blablabla... Have your vehicle serviced blablabla..."
Does it mean I have to change my automatic transmission fluid?

Then your doing something wrong. If there is no rust you car will jack up with no problems or bending.
