My Ford Touch Problems On Local News Story

Just finished watching the local CTV news in Toronto Canada

Oh this will be interesting as I am sure there will be a follow up segment when viewers respond to this. If I currently owned my 2012 I would be all over this with the the DCT issues.

i'd have to side w/ apple on this one.. i had an iphone4 and now an iphone5 and both work flawlessly w/ mft... Im a lucky guy in that my mft has rebooted only twice in 2 years and works as ford advertises. It's not this woman''s phone, it's her mft!

imo, it's the mft that's faulty.... there are too many folks w/ too many mft problems out there and ford brought mft to market half baked. they need to fix it or totally redesign it asap and then make the new working version available free to all purchasers of the mk3 focus.

This is why no one should ever use an apple product. Just throw them all in the trash.

It's not apple... It's MFT. I have an android phone, and mine also does odd stuff. For example, while driving at highway speeds, it'll lock up, emit a loud piercing static noise... with all buttons and knobs unusable. The only way to get it to stop is to pull over, turn off the engine, and open the car door. Within a few minutes after I do that, MFT reboots. Fun, eh?

Apple is still crap.

I agree that there are still some lingering issues, but I have an iPhone 4 and have had no problems. After I installed the update, my phone synched in a few seconds, I receive texts and have never lost the connection or had the system maintenance screen. She must have a friend at the station or it was a slow news day because this isn't news. As far as it being a safety issue, that's a bit of hyperbole.

My Android device (Razr Maxx) connects via bluetooth and works great with phone and music, but for music I typically use a USB stick and the greater freedom in using Sync's features with it.

My 2009 Focus had big problems with my iPhone 3 via bluetooth, and via USB it would not work at all.

YMMV, some people will have no problems with product x but many with product y or vice-versa. Use a USB stick and nobody will have problems. That simple.

You can't use the AC? Use the manual controls.

Can't listen to the radio? Not a safety issue.

Can't use your phone? Not a safety issue.

I agree, OP must have an inside connection to get something like this on the news when there are SO much more important things going on in the world.

I watched this live on tv and couldn't help but laugh since similar issues have been a problem for years now. The answer is likely (since they replaced her computer and many people with iPhone have no issues) is that her phone likely had software on it that's causing this. She would have to wipe the phone to factory to test.

True mft kinda sucks and is far behind where it needs to be, but in this case I think it's more her phone than anything. In any case, hearing her freak out because her computer resets is hilarious and has nothing to do with driving. Interesting she says she had the nav version of mft. I still thank god I avoided that, since it's mainly been those units with the worst problems. Maybe if she had done some proper research none of this would have been a shock to her.

Oh and as a side note - if Ford is reading this, please come up with a bridging app. As in, you make a proprietary app for all smartphones that works through your now useless in car wifi system that will communicate the same protocols, features and functions across all platforms that would transmit texts, album art, phone calls, contact pictures, Pandora, slacker, info etc to the computer without worry of compatibility or implementation. That is all.
