License Plate

Is it legal for people to not have their license plate mounted on their front bumper? I've seen many, many vehicles without a front license plate, or the license plate is in the driver-side dash by the windshield. . .

Are there any laws that state that you need to have your front license plate attached?

In the future, I'm thinking about maybe getting the Cervinis Front Bumper and it doesn't have any place setting for the front license plate and I was wondering if I needed to drill some holes for it. Thanks everyone! ^_^

Cheers!

It varies from state to state. Every state I've lived in requires a front plate. [:(]

Do you know where I could possibly find a list of laws for each state, so I could see what kind of regulations to be aware of?

Cheers!

here I foun this......
Officer Nicolino,
who was traveling north, noticed as he passed the vehicle that it did not have a front
license plate. (MTS Tr. 4.) Vehicles licensed in the State of Iowa must display
both front and rear license plates.

Well blah . . . Does having the license plate on the dash by the windshield count towards that? I've seen quite a few people doing that.

Also, would this probably be a thing that cops would only pull someone over for if they are under their quota? Like the window tint issue? :/

Cheers!

you can get the thing on ebay that lets you mount in on the lower part of the bumper. or just use some wire to attach it to the mesh in the bumper

no, it has to be on the bumper. i got pulled cuz i had my plate in my front window on the dash. fortunatly i got a warning. reason being, the cops usually dont see the plate in the windshield .

The front plate is not required in Michigan.

The front plate is required in Connecticut. I know a few people that got stopped for it and it cannot be in the windshield

You do need front and rear plates in Iowa and they need to be mounted on the exterior of the vehicle. I've gotten by for about a year with no front plate but was eventially given a warning and had to then prove I had a front plate properly installed. I also had to pull my tint off the front door windows.

My feeling is: why give law enforcement a reason to stop you? If they do and you have illegal tint, clear corners, loud exhaust, tinted taillights, (all of which is illegal), your problems might be compounded.
