Custom Ram Air maybe??

I have recently been given a 2000 Focus zx3. This is my first try at a tunerish car. My experience in vehicles is broad, but not to deep into any one thing. I'm more of a fab it myself over pay for it any day guy.

That being said this is my attempt at a ram air kinda. Everything i have read in my research points to a large scoop and good free flowing filter. Looking under the hood the first thing i see is the top plastic covering to the top of the grill. That triangle shaped baffle and scoop. I decided to open that up build a collector box and cap. So after cutting it up making the pieces this is what I came up with for insert and cap. Also moved the snorkel a little.

Is this to sharp of an angle to force air in? Is it doing anything or even hurting me?

Bottoms I used decorative tin plates :)

not to rain on your first attempt and good job but unless its sealed better I don't think it will do that much. Get a fiberglass repair kit and mold that to get a 100% seal and will likely work a lot better.

Edit: Also looks like you still have the air box resonator on... you may get some improvement by removing that and also will give you a "better" sound.

The actual flex tube after the plastic part, or the tube that goes under battery tray to attach to bottom of airbox, is porous, meaning you are still not getting pure cold air there. Kinda silly really the way they designed it.

You're looking for COLD air, not ram air, you get no benefit from ram air until over 100 mph and even then the ducting must be pretty straight.

Look here at pics...........

Cool idea! I don't know about you but I have only been to [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)] once and it was scary. I hope you don't plan on going that fast [;)]

You could also pick up one of these and have a semi-factory appearance rather than hacked up metal dinner plates:

My hotrod days are past but I built several ram air setups for drag cars. If I did cold air there I'd be going up through the hood instead of having all that ductwork in there.
