experience Needed transmission, throttle body, troubles? (This is long)
I will start out with I have a 08 focus couple automatic.
Today I changed the solenoids in my transmission the three that are the same on one side and the two green tops on the other.
while doing this I took the time to install a Steeda air intake. so the mass air flow sensor got removed and replaced int he new air filter set up.
Now that you know what I did. let me tell you what is going on.
Park to drive then i take off for a drive everything is cool until i stop the first time. no noises. Now that I have stopped i start to go again. the car pulses has low to no powerjust surges forward. I back of the throttle, then try again. Car pulses. back off then try again and boom drives fine it is like the clutch bands were barely engaging. this happens every time i come to a complete stop and then go again. if i stop shift into park or neutral and then back to drive first time out of bag drives right... until I stop completely againand it repeats.
For those that are wondering my process.
Jacked up car
Removed drain pan
Removed filter forever.
Removed solenoids that were bad( really only one was but i replaced them all for good meassure)
Replaced the solenoids and reconnected the wires inorder in which they came off.
reinstalled pan properly
Filled with 4 quarts of fluid Mercron V
Turned on car and let the pump do its thing. at idle for 5 min.
cycled through the gears for a short time every thing felt good. I thought.
checked fluid level looks to be a little too much really. and then drove it.
As for the air intake I followed the supplied instructions. no brainer.
So What have i missed? Is one of the Solenoids I put in the trans bad out of the box? Have blow by? If so which one?
Was my thinking that the torque converter held 2qts or more of fluid wrong? Dip stick looks to have a quart too much.
Throttle body giving me the finger? (no check engine lights or codes)
Mass airflow sensor in backwards? It only fits one way?
Too much fluid? I need to get some out?
It almost feels like there isn't enough fluid. The capasity I read was 7.1 qts for the 4F27E. Is that right?
Help, please Help. if i have to tear into the trans again thats fine but my mind will bother me till I figure it out.
i"ll add the car is a 2008 with 69,000 miles on the car the engine is a 2009 with 34000 miles and the trans has all 69,000 original miles. I have had it for 2 month now trying to fix a car abusers, Abuse!
Sounds like a solenoid isn't releasing or a pressure valve is stuck (I'm not good with auto's).
Or, you didn't reset the ECU and it's trying to run off corrupt learned data. Disconnect the battery for 15min or so. See if that changes anything.
And I have to ask, what was the initial problem that led to changing the solenoid? and is it gone atleast?
oh, and thank you for the well organized post. You've no idea how much of a delight it is to see one.
The initial problem was it would down shift to second when slowing to make a turn. That problem is fixed.
I tried the battery reset. Checked fluid level. Removed 8oz and while running and warm the level was perfect. Still no dice. No codes. I noticed though when it was doing the lunging thing the engine RPMs jumped with the lurch. Not sure if that means something or not. Not to mention you could hear it with the open element air filter. Also noticed the engine is slower to rev now. Even in park or neutral. It still does but it is not as responsive as I am used to.
What solenoid controls the issue I am having? I still have a few that I can swap out.
Are you SURE that the MAF is in the right position? Meaning you may have it installed backwards. It has been know to happen before. Also a leak in the Intake set-up will cause some of the symptoms you describe.
For future reference do one mod at a time, easier to track down a problem if it arises!
Yes sir I have checked. When installing the maf the sensor only fits one way and I double and triple checked I even reinstalled the factory air box. Still had the issue so I am reasonably sure the direction isn't the issue.
Thank you though. Please bounce ideas. I will try them all and report back with results.
Right now I am thinking solenoid D is giving me the fits.... I will try swapping it out tomorrow afternoon sometime. May take longer to get the free time but it will definitely report back.
Still wanting ideas though. I appreciate the feedback guys
Hmm, you used all new solenoids? Thats what I read, kinda odd then. Are they OEM Ford parts?
The green tops were referbished the 3 pwms are ford new.
Well if solenoid "D" was a refurbished one, I would seriously consider it a culprit per the link with the operations of each solenoid. This stuff can be tricky, and you provide excellent information!
