Got the Green Filter....

Hey guys, got a question for all of you. I decided to go with a Green filter after a lot of reading (on here) about the various intake systems avail. for this car.

I installed the Green filter and removed the snorkel but my question is this: will this setup be more optimal with or without the airbox lid installed? i'm coming from a corvette z06 so trust me i'm NOT expecting a massive gain in power or anything like that, but i do want the best mix or drive-ability/fuel mileage/ power possible. thanks in advance for the responses.

Oh by the way, vehicle is a 2012 red hatchback se 5 speed.

i thought about removing the airbox lid as well, but i read somewhere about the sound increase so didn't go with it. also read that the factory air box has space for pretty good circulation, so having it off won't do much. don't remember where i read it from though..

I would keep the lid on. Having it off essentially defeats the purpose of the open-ended filter (to a degree). With the lid on you will still build some negative pressure in the runners and be able to get cool air from in front of the radiator support. This benefits you from a stand-still, while the open end will give more benefit at speed.

What if you have the K&N, a non opened ended filter.. box preference?

I've been thinking about making a heat shield out of the original lid.

Knowing you Madman I sense there is a 300 horsepower Focus on the horizon.[headbang]

lol i'm going to have to do something to give this thing a bit more balls!

I run the K&N drop-in with a snorkel and resonator delete, lid on. There are solid gains throughout the powerband, reasonable (non-obnoxious) sound, and great mileage. At the top of the powerband it is a few HP shy of the name-brand intakes, but below 3200 rpm it is the same or more. I'm rarely ever above that so it is perfect for me and my driving style.

I have the K & N Typhoon, I definitely feel more torque and my mileage has gone up about 1.5 more mpg. Madman the green filter does sound great.

I have the snorkel delete, not too interested in cutting stuff off (yet).
I like the sound of the box off, does it hinder performance?
I would assume more air>more fuel>more power.
But you know what they say when you assume. [8D]

The resonator just pops out of the bottom, one bolt holding it to the frame. Unless you're taking about cutting the flap, which isn't overly required. The whole front end is pressurized while driving.

Dyno work has shown an extra 1-2 HP, but that is a cool environment with the hood up. The best I can say is to give it a shot and take note of your fuel mileage and the overall behavior of the drivetrain. You won't hurt anything because it is pre-filter; many people have driven for months with the lid off.
