antenna broken off -- 2012 model

My wife went through one of those checkpoint things -- with the wooden arm that blocks you/ goes up and down -- too slowly. As she went through, the wooden arm came down on the top of the car, dragging across the top and breaking off the antenna.

I'm wondering if I can just buy the new antenna itself, or do I need to also replace the black antenna module that it (seems to be) screwed into?

You can replace just the screw out part with no issues. There are aftermarket short ones that fit

I took my intena off to go through a car wash and forgot to put it back on till a week later funny thing though the reception seems to be as good or better than with the silly thing connected I have synch and sirius to boot.

But the antenna broke off, leaving the end of it still inside the black base unit attached to the car.

I have to somehow open the antenna base unit to get rid of the rest of the old antenna. How to do that? I don't see a place where with a screwdriver I could pop it up/open.

I've had a lot of static since the injury.

You will have to get some specialized tools to get it out. Or go to mechanic or machinist. A small hole will be drilled in the centre of the broken bolt and a reverse threaded "screw" is used to back the bolt out
