Timing Belt Kit
Hey guys,
Quick question - is there timing belt kit that includes the pulleys/tensioner, belt and water pump? If so, where is the best place to buy it? |
got mine from Tousley Ford, ask for Steve
|
I got my whole kit from Massive.. You can talk to Karl. He'll take care of you plus you get some sweet decalssss lol
Sent from my JailBroken iPhone. |
Got all my parts on ebay. Every1 said ebay was crap and blah blah blah but its still running strong. Same exact gates TCK 294B kit u can buy anywhere else, it was like $95 shipped. No, it wasnt a 5 yr old kit left sitting on a shelf with a dried up belt. Water pump also ebay, it was ford oem, got it for $65 shipped. Check out my thread

Ordered my gates tck294B kit off amazon and I think the motorcraft waterpump off rockauto. The kit includes the belt, tensioner and pully.

Check out Rockauto but also cross shop part numbers to find the best deal. I recommend the Gates brand. Any kit you get will most likely not have the water pump included you'll have to get that separate. I bought the gates water pump and it was identical to the stock one I pulled off.
This is the kit a I put on a local members SVT last month http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y25...2-08155253.jpg Here are the water pumps as you can see they are identical. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y25...L/DSCN5557.jpg Here is a pic when I did my timing belt in Ole' Yeller'. I bought the Gates Blue racing belt which I wouldn't recommend unless your doing a show car, it gets dirty rather quickly lol. Everything besides the t-belt was only 50 bucks if I remember right off of Rockauto 2-3 years ago when I bought everything. I had to piece together my own kit since I was using the blue belt and it doesn't come in a kit. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y25...L/DSCN5550.jpg |
Thanks for the tips. I don't really need the water pump, but if I'm in there that deep already..
I'll probably end up shopping around, as suggested - either eBay or Amazon for the kit, and then I'll probably see what price I can get on the pump through a dealer (a friend is a mechanic at an independent shop and gets a discount). The "cam locking tool" or whatever you want to call it -- required, or is the homemade tool good enough? |
The cam tool and timing pin are definitely helpful and not that expensive. I bought it on amazon for $20 part number was OTC 6486. Same tools used in the non-SVT.
|
I highly recommend you get a timing tool, for 30 bucks or less you can't go wrong though some have made a home made tool. I'd use the tool especially since you have a SVT. I've got the OTC tool and it works great and I have timed a zetec's and SVT's a dozen times with it, with great success.

Idk why you wouldn't just keep with motorcraft when you go through Steve over at tousley ford it's really not that bad of a price. Might as well keep everything ford no?? But each to their own...
