Exhaust question for those w/ 09-10 5-speed coupes..
alright, so the stock exhaust on the 09-10 5 speed equipped coupes is already a bit louder and deeper than the normal exhausts on the sedans as we know. my question is has anyone ever experienced w/ putting in a straight pipe in place of the mid muffler/resonator before the rear suspension? just a random thought i got. me personally, i'm just waiting for FSWERKS to give out some coupon codes so i can get the stealth exhaust for a bit cheaper than $449..

haven't tried it, but logically it would make sense that you would get a small (1-2hp) power gain and a louder sound. that said though, the factory exhaust is 2.25" and has a fairly restrictive flow compared to aftermarket 2.5" piping and better flowing (and sounding) resonators/mufflers.
unless you can do all the work yourself (cutting, fab work, welding) to put in a straight pipe, you're going to get the best bang for the buck with an aftermarket bolt on system. having a shop fab and weld in a straight pipe could easily run $200 or more for something with small results and a potential sound you may not like. just my .02, but stick it out for the stealth. |

I've got an '08 SES with a straight pipe.
Because it's a dual cat, the sound isn't over the top, or as loud as you would think. Sounds just about right to me now, but took a while to get used to cause I never had anything but stock on previous cars. |
