04 2.3 sedan , tranny goes into gear hard.

Just picked up duratec focus number 4 last night.

previous owner said the car has been going into gear hard for the past year and half. So i took a chance , bought the car for 500 bucks and drove it 170 miles home.

The overdrive off light flashes but the overdrive works , so im kinda confused.

The car does go into 2 and 3rd kinda hard , it doesnt always do it and the car went pretty damn good the whole way home.

Previous owner said he had the fluid changed and it didnt do anything. im thinking maybe the solenoids are bad. or the filter is bad. Tranny does NOT slip and it goes through all the gears.

Any ideas ?

I have no advise on the tranny, but I am curious, was this the wrecked zx4 in Derry NH?

sure is. and i wouldnt consider it wrecked. it only messed up the fender and bumper. the rest of the car is in amazing shape.

I would seriously replace the solenoids, there are 6, they can be had cheap used.

Goodluck and be careful removing the valve body, 2 springs fell out when I removed mine and I could only figure out where 1 of them went......
