Electric turbo?

I was just navigating my way around eBay and I found this thing.

It's an electric turbo, I laughed to myself about it but it still made me question whether or not it would provide any recognizable power if any at all to a focus. It claims to fit on all makes and models of vehicles that have a 3" intake tube. The funny thing is, I couldn't find any specifications on exactly how much boost pressure it could put out, but it says it can support up to an 800hp motor.

What do you guys think? Could it work at all? What benefits if any do you think there may be from it? It's only about $50 on eBay could be a potential experiment for someone to test.

I wouldnt waste my money

none of those work at all. all it does is accelerate the air slightly. in order for it to be effective it needs to compress the intake air which these electric blowers are not capable of doing.

From what I've been told, it's possible that these things provide 1-2 psi of pressure when the engine is idling, but once RPMs start to increase it quickly turns to vacuum and ends up causing a restriction instead. Walk away.

The other much scarier story is the plastic impeller falling apart and getting sucked into the engine.

That's what I thought, it just amazes me that people actually fall for this kind of stuff.

^^^ What they said. Electric turbos just don't build enough boost to be terribly useful. That being said, Audi is actually playing with electric turbos on their diesel cars at the moment. They are using the electric turbos to build boost at low RPMs, until the revs build enough that the larger mechanical turbo starts to kick in, providing top end boost. It's quite a nifty way to reduce turbo lag.

I seem to remember a leaf blower on a honda civiv on the dyno...picking up a good bit of HP.

I need to find the thread on this where someone legitimately tried to prove these useful.

I found a website that has a three motor electric turbo, this one seems a little more feasible, but I still don't see an electric turbo coming close to a real turbo, at least not anytime soon.

i find that one hard to believe just with that fact that they claim 100% power increase at 8psi?!
