WhiteHouse.gov petition to recognize European emissions and regulations

Enact legislation allowing automobile manufacturers whose products meet European Union automobile emissions and crash test regulations to sell those products in the United States. This will allow manufacturers to save millions of dollars per model in costs by allowing them to develop a "world car" that can be sold in all markets instead of the current system of developing separate models and drivetrains for the United States. Current policy dramatically limits the choice of automobiles available to the American public by preventing manufacturers from selling more fuel efficient models in the United States due to costs associated with developing new drivetrain components and receiving certification.
This is interesting... wonder if passed, if it could apply to older cars... (read: Focus RS)

Not to mention all the extremely efficient diesel models such as the fiesta diesel with 68mpg.

I signed it.

Very interesting. Maybe we'll see some Volkswagen Lupo's? Lol. I DEFINITELY wouldn't mind a 68mpg Fiesta.

It would make sense. I gave it a vote. I'm sure Detroit wouldn't like to see a BMW 5-series drop $10,000 in price because that would mean no more $7,000 rebates on Detroit's luxury cars. They would have to price them appropriately. I'll stick with my muscle cars and Focus for a while.

Is that 68mpg based off of imperial gallons? So in metric gallons around 55mpg?? Still better.

Now I can get myself a TVR! ...and a tow truck to go along with it.

I always forget there's a difference lol. And it would be great for motorcycles too. My old Ducati 749 ran funky because they had to detune the bike to run in the US. There was a very widespread stalling issue with the 749 but it was only in the states.
