Need a new set of battery cables
Hello everyone,
I've got to replace my battery cables. Are the cables the same on both the automatic and the manual? And could someone possibly point me in the right direction of where to find these? Thanks in advance Since moved: 2001 ZX3 manual |
Different.
Ford part #s: Auto: YS4Z-14301-LB Manual: YS4Z-14301-JB Try Ford dealer or http://focus.c-f-m.com/search.aspx?find=battery |
I have been looking for that for literally five weeks.
Thank you so much [pray] |
Okay, I bought the part.
Now the chore of actually replacing the cables. Has anyone done this? And if so could you lend a few pointers? |
It's a pain getting the wires on and off of the started but it is doable. You mainly have to fell around, it may even be easier to pull the starter off but leave it in the engine bay to get better access to it. Other than that it's pretty strait forward, oh and you don't want to over tighten the wire on the starter as it can strip the threads, I've done it before and ended up having to get a new starter due to me messing them threads up, probably could have taken it into a shop and have then rebuild and replace that part, but I needed it done asap.

Don't remove starter. Use deep sockets on the hidden starter attachments, one is 10 mm. and the other 13 mm. There are two 13 mm., one does not remove, it's closest to starter main body, the one further out on solenoid is the one that comes loose. Easy to break those off like he says............alt attachment point is 10 mm. too. Easy to twist the alt fixture off too, the 10 mm. nut doesn't usually want to come loose.

This sounds like such a pain. ><
Has to be done though. I guess thats what the holiday weekend is for I suppose. So basically, don't remove the starter and be careful with all the nuts and bolts. How did you guys have the car jacked up while you were doing it? |
Jackstands and firmly placed, emergency brake locked on fully.
How much was cable assembly? I made my own out of much bigger cable since positive cable melted, mine cost me maybe $30-$40 at the time but I had to make them. |
My cables were 80 or so from Central Florida Motorsports. But I picked it up so no shipping with that.

Got the cables installed.
Man was that a b[:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]h. But it seemed to have taken care of the problem. Starts up fine. |
