I would say you'd have to go to a dealership with your VIN #.

burke_024 12-16-2012 05:15 PM

thats what i was thinking, i was also thinking i need the ecu code to for the security system .....

On second thought, maybe try calling a locksmith. If they can make one, it's gotta be cheaper than a dealer.

You can program key yourself (look in owners manual), if you can find a key blank someplace. You're prob stuck going to the dealer since you can't really wait to get one off ebay.

You need an active key ( maybe two ) to program another one.

mikeeshaq 12-16-2012 06:13 PM

You need two good keys to program yet a third one (or 4th for the matter)
There are locksmiths that will make an exact clone of an existing key- but that is no good for programming another key
The reason that Ford does that so that a Valet parking attendant just cannot copy a key, have to have two keys for copying.

I am afraid you will have to 'bite the bullet' on this one. Make three 'smart' keys and one dumb one. Hide dumb key on the outside someplace. Hide smart key inside someplace. You will never be stranded again

There ARE key programmers out there that can communicate to the ECU, but I think it is a hit or miss, since those are non-Ford programmers.

sooo dealership for sure for one good copy ?

mikeeshaq 12-16-2012 08:14 PM

"""sooo dealership for sure for one good copy ? """

Yes I am afraid so.

Of course if your keyhole is offset , then you have a 'ticking time bomb' where the ignition cylinder will just lock up.
If your keyhole is centered then at least you don't have that bugging you

burke_024 12-16-2012 09:57 PM

im pretty sure its centered but i will check tomorrow
