MK1 rear disk brake kit recommendations ?

hi im new here
and im looking to convert my 2003 ford focus ZTS to rear disk brakes
but i couldn't find any reliable cheep rear brake kits

so if anyone has any recommendations or even a list of company's that make the rear disc kits i would appreciate it

also if there is an ABS kit any recommendations for that would be appreciated also

idk if there is anyone still making rear kits these days. When they did they were EXPENSIVE around the $800-$1500 range.

What most do that want rear disk is swap out for the SVT breaks. However you must do both front and rear, if you dont the rear disks will be larger than the front and you wont get a desired result for breaking. You can source the parts yourself from a junk yard if you can find a wrecked svt. or they do pop up on the B-S-T area every once in a while.

Now in reality unless your road racing all the time there isnt really a huge need for rear disk breaks on these cars. Sure they look nice but a good set of front rotors and pads will do just fine for every day driving with some fun spirited stuff too.

well what i really want is the ABS system and as i understand it
the ABS system works far better with disk then drum
im not even sure if you could get ABS from the factory without 4 weel disc

also i feel cheated by ford in that the ZTS is the best edition of the focus you can get and it didnt even come with 4 weel disc let alone ABS

SVT excluded because it was a special order edition

sounds like ill go junk yard hunting then
if i find SVT brakes will i NEED the larger rims?
or can i keep the stock 16 weels of the ZTS?

thanks alot for the reply

Adding ABS to a car not originally equipped with it would be a huge undertaking. If you really want ABS, buy a car that came optioned with it - they are out there. It wasn't just the SVT cars. My '03 ZTW has it.

what i meant was the SVT it was a standard to have both 4 weel disc and ABS
it was optional on all other versions

and my current understanding so far is the ABS system consist of a computer
a control module and an ABS ring on each spindle but then again ive never seen a conversion kit for it

probably would be better to cannibalize a SVT for the parts
im even now wondering if the engine control computer would have to support ABS also because the dash computer isw supposed to have a warning light
for the ABS

it might be far simpler to say screw it and just worry about the disk brakes
im starting to wonder if i even need a kit

can i just buy of the shelf parts and piece the rear disc system together?

Dude, you are not going to be able to add ABS to a car that didn't come with it, unless you buy a parts car and completely swap the CPU, and more parts than you can imagine.

ABS does not work any better with 4 wheel discs than it does with rear drums, if the brakes can lock up the tires, more clamping force at the brakes does nothing.

If you want the disc brakes so badly, watch the for sale section here, in the last month there have been two or three complete SVT front and rear brake conversion kit for sale at $600-700 for both ends.

Ford no longer sells the caliper brackets, the rest of the little parts one could buy off the shelf and piece together a kit for even more money.

+1 elsolo. The brakes can only give as much stopping power as the tires will provide, so if your current drums will lock up your wheels then disks won't help you stop better. The only difference is that they look cooler and probably are slightly cooler (loose heat faster). SVT swap is the way to go if you can find it. But keep in mind you won't be able to run 15's or 14's for winter tires anymore if you care about that sort of thing.

A great start is to get the front SVT kit= 300mm rotors/bigger calipers. You can use your stock brake lines, but I'd get a set of SS lines. You'll need either svt spindles or '05 only spindles & the '05 ball joints to go w/ the '05 spindles. For rear disc's, '05-'07 ST rear disc are easier to get, then the svt ones. Like elsolo mentioned to convert to a abs system, you'll need a parts car.

What gains are there to be had by switching to all disc brakes? I understand that the discs on the SVT are larger, but is the 60-0 distance lessened dramatically? Or would it be more cost effective by going to ceramics?
