Tpms ?'s for 2008

I know this is probably addressed somewhere else but I cant find it. What happens if I get aftermarket rims and dont put new sensors in them? I probably will get rims, tires, and new sensors but I would rather not spend an extra $200+ if I dont have to. I've heard several rumors and suggestions and reactions but dont know for real.

The light will be on and your information center will always say "Low Tire Pressure"

I think the 2008 uses the band type sensors. Find out what model number you need and look on ebay. You don't have to pay $200, you can pay significantly less and still get them.

ebay. avoid the dealer prices. the dealer replaced one of my rims and had to put a tpms band on it. it wouldve cost $75 for one. when i bought new wheels i picked up a set of 4 bands for $10.
the sensors are nothing special. and are used by other manufactures

I put my rims on and I went like 150 miles before the light even came on.

It says Tire pressure monitor fault on your info screen. You can clear it by hitting reset but the icon still blinks and it returns every time you restart the car.

My mom works at a dealer and I asked the guys to figure out if they could just disable the system since it's pointless for somebody like me that actually pays attention to things like that. The tech said if it was disable the light would just always be illuminated.

I will have to get a second opinion though, there has to be a way to disable the sensors, lights and warnings!

The dealer can't disable it, by law. Physically, they can. If they disable it they are violating a federal law that states you can't disable federally mandated safety devices.

Crock of BS if you ask me. I use a TPMS system that only costs about $2 - look at the tires and see if they're low. Or, use a gauge to take the pressure if they do look low.

^^ Agreed, TPMS warning lights cannot be dissabled (federal mandate all 2008+ vehicles need TPMS sensors). My engineering friends (also car guys) said that I was dumb for not being able to figure it out and after about 4 hours of research they agreed with me.

Any focus can use Band Style or Vavle Style as long as they are 3400 MhZ they just need to be "trained" to the car. I got a set of valve stem TPMS sensors from a member on here to throw on my after market rims once I change out the tires.

If the light on your dash showing "low pressure" doesn't bother you then don't worry about the TPMS sensors, but if it does it'll cost ya ~140 to buy them. Usually shops install them for free if you are getting new tires but if they have to break the bead and mount them I think it would cost around $30-40/wheel (120-160 total).

The 2008 focus uses the band for the steel rims, idk about the others. I had my tires changed and the shop that did them knocked one of my bands and tried to wire tie it back in place... lets just say dont do that cause it doesnt work... the light will still come on to say a system fault. but the light really isnt that annoying... flashes for a min every time you start the car and stays lit till you turn it off.

They can't disable it by law, but there are always ways around that when you work there :p
