Traction Control and loud noises?
 

Just wondering if anyone else is having a large clunking under the car when your traction control kicks in. I mean it sounds like something is going to snap under the car. I have had traction control on a lot of my cars never heard this. Just want to make sure this is not normal for the Focus before I take it to the dealer.

Addition to above: It fells like the right front wheel is going to come off. But you can feel it throughout the entire floorboard.

If it feels like the wheel is going to fall off you should start by checking the lug nuts.

Does the car shake a lot when this happens? When my system kicks in the tires always feel like they're hopping a lot. It's not a nice feeling.

What happens when you disengage the TC?

I have a similar feeling. TC off is normal, but with TC on and a wet road, if I accelerate and it turns on it chops/pulses really harshly, and everything bounces in the cup holders. In the snow, not at all. I felt similar rattling in the cabin once when I ran through a pothole at night that cracked the sidewall on my tire.

I'm not sure if it's normal, I know it's obnoxious and sounds harmful on a wet surface, and it'd probably scare the crap out of any passengers I have if it activates.

No. Never experienced this and I live a mile up a very steep dirt/mud road and I usually leave the traction control on.

Checked right wheel its not loose. Thanks for all the info looks like a trip to the dealer for me. I have had numerous vehicles with TC and never had that hopping clunking sound when it kicks in. I don't think it is normal.

One more thing don't know if this makes a difference but i do have sport suspension option on my 2012 TI. Maybe the springs or even the 18 rims? Really has me scratching my head.

Doesn't the traction control system work by utilizing the ABS?
