Help with removing shift cables under center counsel

Ok, so I am about to install a STS and I know how to install it, but I need some advice on how to remove the shifter cables. How exactly do they pop off? Do I take off the black band around the white bushing or do I remove the whole bushing from the shifter? Thanks for your help

anyone? I'm thinking I have to take off the whole bushing by prying it off, but I don't want to break it in the process [???:)]

Leave the old shifter connected to the base and pull the linkages off, then remove the four screws for the base. Don't forget to grease the moving parts & you're good to go. It's pretty straight forward.

Ok I understand that, but how exactly does the linkage dislodge from the bushings? I'm probably overlooking it. [poke]
