Check Engine Light- 1.6L Zetec
HI, I am a proud new owner of a ford focus, the 2004 Zetec 1.6l. I got it second hand with 54k on the odometer.
On day one it ran well, i then changed the oil and embarked on a 800km trip, during the trip i noticed a loss in power and stuttering. I pulled over for a few minutes, when i restarted the car the light was gone but a few minutes later it reappeared. The light remained on for the entire journey with noticable low power After the journey i got it to the garage and got a misfire code on cylinder 4 plus a fuel level error. The cylinders were cleaned and power was back, but the check engine light was back in 2 days. So i changed the plugs and for 7 days i drove with no problem. Now the check engine light is back with reduced power. The codes received now are a cylinder 2 misfire and the fuel level error. This being my first car, i am stressed out. Can someone please help me out in solving the problem |
I'm going to move you to the General Tech area. You will get more responses there. This is mostly a North America based site so you may not get too many response due to the fact we are not familiar with the 1.6.

Can you provide us with the errorcodes? Fuel level error (sensor error for fuel level in tank) Is very common and does not affect your problem normally, but need to see the errorcodes first.

Error p0406
I well get the scan later and confirm the misfire codes. |
Think that is EGR valve related. I have a 2004 focus and does not even have this valve (Norwegian car). Is it the old style Focus or the newer body?

If you send me an email, I can provide you with the ford TIS service dvd for the car, going to Nairobi soon, just need a postal adress
