Wheel Painting

I decided to paint my rims (black or red) what kind of paint works best and would the black paint cover the red if i wanted to see what looks better or what could i use the get the paint off.

maybe try plastidip first to see the.black look , then paint red onto the dip to see that look . if you like red keep it , and if not either dip it black again or paint it black. dip provides a great removable primer which is impressively strong when painted

Spray the dip on very thick so you can use it as a primer. Also check this thread:

You can buy the rattle can version in black at Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc

I used Duplicolor Wheel Coating. It is a permanent paint and comes out great if you prep right and follow directions.

don't use plastidip as a primer. i skimmed that and didn't actually read it, but use color plastidip for colors, paint for other colors. plastidip is a gift from the gods IMO, and works fantastic. i've had my wheels through all kinds of machine car washes and theyre fine no worries. watch youtube vids, and best part is is you can take it off when youre wanting a new color

yea i looked at plastidip but how long does it last

sam fisher 12-03-2012 04:35 PM

it lasts pretty good while , when i painted mine it became much much stronger , and didnt come off untill i removed it .
