Connecting an Iphone/Ipod

2006 ZX4 with a 6disc cd changer.

Really like the cd changer. Don't have any complaints about the stereo system. My wife keeps bugging me about connecting her iphone so she can listen to her music. Have tried the FM transmitter thing many years back. Works well when you first set it up. Then gets a lot of static when driving around. We have lots of mountains. Radio signal come and go a lot. Is there an alternative to the FM transmitter that does NOT involve replacing the entire stereo? Thanks

Ford has an accessory for your year called trip tunes. Works great!

Thanks for the quick response. Do I have to remove the radio? Says it requires a wiring harness. Is this available at ford or a stereo shop? Seems kind a pricey.... Would an after market stereo be a better choice? Or is there another radio from another Ford vehicle that has an AUX jack that will fit the focus?

I found a site with some pictures. Looks simple to install but still dont know what the wireing harness is? The mounting case look a little thin for an iphone. Are there different models?

So far I have found Brandmotion, Triptunes and iSimple. Anyone recommend one over the other? Need it to charge the iphone, and control it thru the steering wheel controls.

Get a good FM transmitter (i.e. spend more than $20). The clearscan that belkin has now works great. I bought one like 3 or 4 years ago (I think I picked it up for like $50 on sale) and it is still crystal clear. Even when I didn't have an antenna on my car it picked it up. Just bought my girl a new belkin ($70 at best buy) and it works awesome, even driving around big cities didn't have any issues. If you start getting a lot of static, just hit the clear scan button, it finds a clear channel, and then change your radio.

And I re read your orginal post about lots of mountains, I live right on the skirt of a large mtn range and I drive over and through the mountains a lot and have never had an issue with my FM transmitter getting scratchy. The cheap walmart ones just don't push the power very well.

Search for the thread "Steering wheel controls + aux input??". Look at posts 13 & 14.
