Hydraulic handbrake problem
 
I've installed a single cylinder hydraulic handbrake in my 2000 focus zx3 rally car and can't seem to get it to work. The focus has 2 rear brake lines going from the master to the back wheels and I've installed it with the two lines from the master going into a 'T' fitting then into the rear port. The a line from the front 45 deg port goes to a 'T' and continues to each of the rear wheels. I bled the system but the handbrake lever just slides back and forth with no apparent pressure ( just like it did before I installed it). Doesn't appear to have any air in the system. Isn't the handbrake supposed to have some sort of check valve or something that interrupts the fluid travel from the master and then pressures up the system from there back? If I push the footbrake, the handbrake pressures up and pulling it then sends pressure forward and the footbrake then pushes back against my foot. Something's not right. I have no instructions, it's an eBay special (looks to be one of the Godspeed units. Because I've got two brake lines there instead of one, should I have gotten one of the 2 cylinder handbrakes? Or do I have the lines hooked up to the wrong ports? Everything I have found indicates that the line(s) from the master should go to the rear port and the front 45 deg port should go to the rear wheels. Anyone have any input?

Looks like you got it backwards, the front port should be the feed from the foot master cyl., and the rear should connect to the rear brake lines.

If yours matches the pictures I found for conversion kits, the rod for your hand brake cyl. extends forwards, and is pushed in by the lever.

So - when the rod is forward, the piston in the cyl' is in front of the 45 deg. port and fluid flows to & from the rear normally. When the rod is pushed in by the handle, the piston travels PAST that port closing it off. At that point it starts applying pressure to the rear brake cylinders.... Release the lever & the system returns to normal operation.

I can't get this bloody thing to work. I might have to order a twin cylinder unit as I saw opt's website mention that if you have dual brakelines going to the rear a twin system is necessary. Any one have any thoughts?

With my hydraulic ebrake I just caped off one of the rear lines at the stock master cylinder then ran one line to the rear. That's is the easiest way.

You could also have a bad ebrake master cylinder. At the last rally event I did mine seized up and melted all of the internal parts of the master. I was told I didnt have the right e brake master cylinder for my setup.

Talk to drift guys about it! They know more about hydroebrakes then the president knows about politics... (Usually they do) haha!
