Already I can tell the article is messed up. It says it took Ford until 1983 to switch to front wheel drive. Escort(and its respective spinoffs) made its debut here in 1981.

MKi Fiesta FWD MY1976. 1978 saw the first MKI Fiestas in the US and the first Ford FWD in the US.
