No Lug Nut Adapter....What Now????

I have the Titanium model with the 18" rims and yesterday I was at Costco to have new winter tires with rims put on the car. But guess what? My car never came with the lug nut adapter so I was unable to get the tires changed which really ticked me off. And yes, I searched the car inside out, the glove box, where the spare is, etc. So I called the dealership and spoke to the person that sold me the car and was basically told that they would have to be cut off and replaced with new ones. I'm truly dumbfounded on this as my question is don't the dealers have spare ones for cases like this? Costco refused to cut them off as they didn't want to be responsible for damage to the vehicle and quite frankly, I don't blame them. Any thoughts or advice from anyone on this? I need to get the winters on as it's getting colder and who knows when we'll get snow. Much appreciated.....

Are you talking about the wheel lock key, or are all of the lugs on the car aftermarket?

Wheel Lock Key.

Should have been in the deep glove box. Dealer problem, not yours.

I totally agree doublej. Disappointed with the dealer reaction so far and I don't want to risk damaging the vehicle by cutting them off. They have to step up to the plate and provide me with a replacement after all it was supposed to come with the car and they failed to take note of that upon delivery. My wife made an interesting point last night: What if I had a flat? What then???

Go to a legitimate tire place they have universal ones, for like 8 bucks each they will take them off. Had the same issue with my mazda but we bought it used.

Hi Robert1966,

If you haven't already, I'd advise that you get Ford Canada involved. They can be reached at 1-800-565-3673. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me via PM.

Thanks,

There is no need to "cut" the nuts off, there are lockout kits available out there. I know Harbor Freight has one.

KibaWolf 11-16-2012 07:25 PM

at my job when this happen, I do not have to "cut" them, that guy who told you that is a dumb idiot, what I use is a air hammer or "zip gun" with the sharp adaptor and just start air hammering at it sideway until its loosen itself, then I just remove it and puts new ones

Oh and if you know how to do it there is no danger at all to make any damage to the wheel, car guy at costco must just be an ignorant lol

Yeah, I bought a lug-out kit from snap-on for when customers lose their wheel lock keys, and it's a snap. Take it to the dealer that sold it to you and tell them to take them off and either give you a new set of locks with keys, or just replace them with factory lugs.
