New Rims

Hello everyone. so i just got a Yellow 2012 Focus se with the sport package, and im looking to get some new rims in the future. As some of you may know, it comes with the 16' wheels so Im debating on getting 17's or 18's and looking for more feedback on which is better. so im wondering if anybody had any opinions/recomendations, on which of the sizes would be best! if there are any pictures to show thats cool too [thumb]

Hey you live down the road a bit from me.

I have 18's on mine and they look great, and now that I've become used to the sight 17's look a little weird to me on these cars. The one huge benefit that 17's give you versus 18's is that tires are noticeably cheaper.

Wheels selection is going to be pretty slim if you're looking for half way decent rims in terms of quality. I like to recommend to people that are looking for an inexpensive rim option to check out the Sparco Assetto Gara's. They come in both 17 and 18 inch and about any colour you could ever want. They are also made by OZ and have a German TUV rating meaning they've past testing for quality.

I have the slight more expensive Pro Race 1.2's from Team Dynamics. They are excellent wheels, but they are sort of hard to get in the states and you just need to be lucky and hope they have a set in your bolt pattern.

Since you asked for pictures, here's some:

Their specs are 18x8 on a 40et offset.

I don't find the ride harsh in the least, and NM roads are far from perfect.

I think a light smoke to those tails will help the cars looks even more. The red just doesn't flow from the back, and I think would help complete the look

Thanks for being completely off topic. I'm by no means done with my car.

Hey, and welcome to Focus Fanatics! Ignore the bickering, it doesn't happen often around here lol.

As far as wheel size goes, I think most folks will agree that 17's are a pretty good balance. They fill up a lot of the ugly wheelwell gap, and yet they aren't so big that you have to worry about rubbing unless you get a crazy suspension drop on there. Also, they won't make the ride super harsh. One of the tradeoffs with an increased wheel diameter is increased ride harshness. So, just something to think about there!

Personally, I think the new foci can pull of 18's a lot better than the older models, but I'd probably still go with 17's.

I like 17's for the ride comfort & 18's for style. I just ordered the same wheels as Joey D but in matte black.

Hit up tirerack.com if you havent already. You can see the Sparcos and lots of others, and you can view them on your vehicle to see how they will look

18"s do look a bit sharper but for everyday use the 17"s have a better margin for error where curbs are concerned, not as harsh a ride and they won't brake the bank and you can put the money you save toward other mods. I just swapped out my 245/45/18s on my STI for 215/50/17 Hankook snow tires and while the change was a bit dramatic I kinda like a little more rubber around the rim and the beefy look works on the Subi.

I wouldn't have minded having 18"s but the 17"s work well and only spent $1200 on 'em. Sold my stock 16"s and tires for $800 so that really offset my cost.
