you think you know zetec's?? ANSWER THIS!!

here is is i picked up a 2001 mercury cougar with a 2.0 zetec with vct on the exaust cam and the cam sensor on the exaust cam, the thing is it has a bad lifter tick. i would like to take out the vct and go with a head i had for my 2001 zx3 its out of a 2000 focus and is a non vct head but the cam sensor is on the intake cam i have a set of adjustable gears and cams that i want to put in it but i dont know if the head will work on the motor or with the computer. will it work and will i have to do any major work
part two is will i be able to tune it with the tuner i have for my zx3 its the cts sf3 flasher.

the escort community may be able to help you more with regards to the tuning the VCT out on the cougar ECU.

The head will physically bolt up, and it may be easier to just use a VCT delete setup and only deal with removal of the VCT in the ECU vs an entire retune with a new cam timing setup.

If that cts sf3 flasher is "locked" to a certain ECU/VIN number, then no it wont tune.

Yes it will work and you can tune it with your xcal3 flasher as long as it isnt locked to another car meaning you can only tune one car at a time

You dont need the cam sensor plugged in for the car to run only to use the VCT which can be turned off in a tune

With a custom tune loaded with a SCT flasher

Or with the VCT delete.
I actually belong to the ZX2 community.
Not sure I can post the name on here....but google search it and you will find it.
But Tom is the Man as far as tuning goes.
