Focus 2012 Navigation Update

Hello everyone,

How does one update their GPS maps? I bought a brand new 2012 FOCUS with Nav yesterday, but I want to be able to update my maps as the current version I believe is 2012. Can they be downloaded? or loaded into SD card?

Good question. I suspect you have to buy a new SD card to get any updates but I could be wrong.

I am surprised that nobody is asking this question. I really dont feel like paying for updates. I must say, the nav system i very impressive. I a sure there is a way to copy that SD card

Hey, everyone!

Our map data is provided by Navteq (www.navigation.com). They typically release updates for standard navigation customers once a year; they come on a DVD and are usually $199. With the release of the Performance Upgrade in March, MFT customers with navigation received a complimentary updated SD card. If you have the most recent card, it with be marked "A3".

I can't speculate on the cost or timing for SD cards, stay tuned to our owner forum for announcements:

I have A3, I was referring to future updates. Maybe buying 1 and sharing with your Focus buddies so that the cost could be split.

Technically you can't legitimately do this as they lock down the map cards such that its not supposed to be possible to copy their contents and use it on another SD card. Not saying its impossible, but its not something they support or encourage you to discuss doing as it hurts their revenue stream.

I haven't heard what the process for obtaining future updates will be, andriykoua, but I do know the SD card must remain in the vehicle to access the navigation system and they're not able to be copied.
