armrest or no armrest?

i have been thinking about if i should keep my armrest in my center console. i had a FJ member tell me he likes not having one. apparently it's easier to shift keeping your arm horizontal (i guess you could say?) rather than at an angle.

i do like it for the small storage space, and obviously to rest my arm when cruising. i can put my weight on it when cornering left, and kind of wrap my arm around it when cornering to the right.

i find it useful, but i wouldn't mind change.

thoughts/opinions?

Arm rests are a requirement if you do long drives, to combat fatigue.

i have an SVT, so no armrest, and on long trips, my right arm will usually pit out a decent amount hahaha

at first i popped the back cover off and undid the two screws to take the armrest off. (try it!)

ugly but it was so much better than having the damn thing in the way that I bought a SVT console down the line. the arm rest made me feel like i was flicking my wrist to shift and I never missed it on trips. YRMV

buickboy, you like it without the arm rest? easier/better/faster shifts right?

Keep the arm rest. It does not get in the way. You do not have to kill the shifter to shift fast.

i guess i just got used to shifting well and fast with it on. i'll take it off for the day and experiment how it feels with it off.

I dislike the postition of the armrest also. It does get in the way of easy shifting.
Though now I am getting used to it.

yeah, it was akward when i first started driving the car, but it grew on me. plus i can always keep my arm on the side of it and shift normally.

No armrest IMO. I don't have one in my car and my arms never gets tired. I have the habit of resting my hand on my lap when it's long trips so it's always in a relaxed position. The only real complaint I have is the lack of extra storage but I probably use the two extra cup holders more than I would the storage.

That said, you'll get used to whatever you decide to use.
