2013 Ford Fiesta gets facelifted, EcoBoosted

Ford pulled back the curtain on the 2013 Cygnet Fiesta at this year's Paris Motor Show, fresh from the machine's debut in Amsterdam. Strutting a healthy dose of the company's new design language, the five-door packs a 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder engine good for 99 horsepower and, according to Ford, segment-leading fuel economy. The 2013 Fiesta also brings MyKey to Europe for the first time, allowing owners to limit parameters from fuel economy to radio volume.

More importantly, the little hatchback now comes equipped with Ford's Active City Stop. The active crash mitigation technology uses a windshield-mounted lidar array to prevent low-speed collisions by alerting the driver to potentially dangerous situations and engaging the brakes if necessary.

In addition, the B-segment bruiser offers Sync, complete with emergency assistance.

good looking but eh... my spi foci was stronger than that...

why not 140hp ? lot more fun ..

My dad's 2012 nissan sentra produce 140hp with direct injection and it's still a 35-36mpg car...

Not liking the front end at all. The grille setup is definitely nicer and cleaner, but the enormous headlights sweep back way too much and make it look very disproportionate. It's also way too nose heavy... way too much front overhang. Bring the front axle up further and widen the track a bit for a sportier look. I'm just not buying the US spec crash rating argument. If they can do it for a US spec Mini Cooper, they can do it here too.

The 1.0L EcoBoost engine also sounds too weak. I could've sworn there was an article not too long ago bragging about how they could have a similar (if not identical) horsepower output from the current US spec Focus out of the conceptual 3-cylinder 1.0L EcoBoost. Uhhh 99 hp falls kinda short from that original projection. I don't mind smaller engines and forced induction, but please for the love of god match or exceed the original hp/ft-lbs figures.

EDIT: Here's the article. Second bullet point says "New engine will deliver performance of a larger four-cylinder with even higher fuel economy." And then it goes on to say, "Final calibrations of the new EcoBoost 1.0-liter are under way. Kuzak said the new engine will deliver horsepower and torque outputs equivalent to or better than most normally aspirated 1.6-liter gasoline engines." Nope, Ford, not exactly...

There are two (so far) power output levels for the 1.0L. Car and Driver drove this one:

Displacement: 61 cu in, 999 cc
Power: 123 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque: 148 lb-ft @ 1400 rpm

We will get this one. Other markets will get the 99-hp and 123-hp versions. Ford also has a 205-hp version in that sweet Formula Ford car that lapped the 'Ring in 7:22

I do prefer the existing front end over this one, but perhaps seeing it in person will change that.

now youre talking^^ great torque at low rpm

Yep, great numbers. There are lots of reviews floating around with the 1.0L Focus, I believe there's even a European member or two on here with that combo.

In any case, I highly doubt America will get the 1.0L in the Focus, but it will be the perfect base powerplant for our Fiesta.

I'm all for the small engines. Yeah, they are sort of gutless, but for a commuter car, you really dont need anything more. Im not a huge fan of the face-lift. Its like they did alot to the grille, and not much else.

WiscoGTI 09-27-2012 02:00 PM

LOL @ 99hp. I could do that on a Huffy.

That's barely even safe.

Yuck. The previous design language and Ford's newer Aston-inspired look do not mesh well at all. And it has a pathetic two-digit horsepower rating? Good thing the only Fiesta I would be interested in is the ST which, in spite of the awkward bottom-feeder catfish grille, is still much better-looking.
