Certified Used Vehicle question

Can a vehicle be sold as Certified Used Vehicle if it has had body work and or repainted? I would imagine yes?

Just wondering cause I bought a 2012 focus and later in brighter sunlight realized it had some body work in addition to being repainted. Also there was some small gouges in the inner door panel from where the inside door panel had been removed (near the door handle). Carfax showed everything checked out, it was a perfect report and only 2k miles on the car. The sales people at first denied that it had been repainted telling me it was a bad buff, but a paint meter the following weekend + the small gouges on the passenger side reveal otherwise.

I feel scammed, but I guess I'm just another sucker.... I regret my purchase, although the car is still pretty nice.

You have grounds for a complaint.
The severity of the damage and the insufficient repair means your car is not worth what you were told it was worth.
Especially with a 'certified used car' they are garanteeing it is good. But it was not.
If you like the car, then you can just skip the headaches, other than to ask for a rebate comparable to the hidden damage and its value reduction to the value of the car... from the dealer.
If you hate the car, get a lawyer.

well, can't offer any better advice than that.

I should have stated that when I purchased the car they gave me $1000 off due to the bad buff in the paint ( I had been stuck in the office for hours and and it was dark out when I went to re-examine the vehicle before purchasing). When they metered it the following weekend, they said yep, it's been repainted, but no body work. Then they told me "well we already lowered the price $1000 bucks"... and that was the end of it they were not going to do anything more.

Is it standard procedure to remove the inner door panel for a repaint only?

The final price was $19500 for the 2012 Titanium with 18" wheels, "sport" suspension added, and MFT.

They gave you a $1,000 off with is significant. I would ignore the minor problems and be satisfied with your excellent deal.

Then again I see this often, car is dmg customer knows this and then has a permanent bad taste.

The collision center where I'm employed removes interior panels for repaints. I'm assuming it's common practice. Can't see my tightwad boss having the body guys doing more work than required.

The 'in the dark check over of the vehicle.'. Yup. Most of the complaints of vehicle paint are the buyer got it in the rain, or in the dark.
Maybe they even stalled to have it BE dark? Anyway, too bad.

I guess if I was that concerned about paint/bodywork I'd tell the dealership I'll come back to inspect the vehicle when it's light outside. If they tell me no deal if you walk I'd walk and come back tomorrow and see if they sing the same tune tomorrow.

Well now the interior chrome panel is loose near the inner door handle. It is easily popping away from the door. I guess I should take it in and see if it is covered or not 3k miles on it now.
